FireWire

A type of computer interface. Developed mostly by Apple and commonly found on Apple Macs and the odd Windows PC.

Also known as IEEE1394 High Speed Serial Bus, it has a rated speed close to 400Mbit/s (~49MB/s).

it is mainly used by graphic equipment like DV cameras (which typically use the small 4 pin connectors), some graphic scanners (typically using the larger 6 pin connectors) and some external hard drives.

For document scanners, the preferred and dominant standard is USB 2.0, though there are still several SCSI document scanners on the market.
