Jan-2000 - AVR compatibility technote Windows 95 & Mac OS 7 compatibility as of (01/05/00) AVR scanners (ALL MODELS) AVR scanners will not work on anything newer than Windows 95.... Tested working with TypeReader OCR. Should also work with any other OCR and imaging software which uses the industry standard ISIS drivers (not TWAIN). Picture Publisher 5: will scan in line art and greyscale via the SCAN menu, set up as an HP scanner (HP driver on PP5 CD-ROM), with the SCSI address (default is 1) as the I/O address. Will not work if set up as an AVR scanner in Picture Publisher! Won't work with PP6 or higher. Install your AVR scanner normally (ASPI2DOS and AVRASPI drivers under Config.sys ---- no HP drivers in Config.sys). Adaptec 1505, 1510, 1522 SCSI interface cards. Make sure you install the DOS level driver for your SCSI card, not the Windows 95 one. If you load both, it won't work. The AVR TWAIN driver (AVR EASYSCAN) won't work with Windows 95. There were no new drivers. The Corel Image Source TWAIN driver supplied with Corel Photopaint version 5 (version 5 only !) will work with Windows 95 and the AVR 8800. For the AVR 6600, 8000 or 3000, you'll need to change the name of the scanner in the file CORTWAIN.INI (e.g. if you have an AVR 6600, where it says AVR 8800 just replace 8800 with 6600 in the CORTWAIN.INI). You can use the Corel Image Source with other TWAIN compliant applications such as Photoshop 2.5 or Picture Publisher 5 but probably not with dedicated WIN95 image editing software. Windows 95 native 32 bit software: new software written specifically for Windows 95 will not be backward compatible with old drivers (e.g. Picture Publisher 6). TECH SUPPORT: We supply all this information on an as-is basis and cannot offer any further support considering that AVR ceased operating more than five years ago and also the recent advances in the operating systems (Windows 95, NT4.0, 98, 2000, ME and Mac OS 8.0, 8.1, 8.5, 8.6 and 9.0 |
